CEED 2020: Apply by November 9
Applications for the Common Entrance Exam for Design (CEED) can be submitted at from 9th October 2019.
CEED 2020 is a qualifying examination for admission to Master of Design (MDes) programmes at Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) at Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kanpur and Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Management (IIITDM) Jabalpur and to Ph.D programmes in Design at IISc Bangalore, IITs at Bombay, Guwahati, Hyderabad and Kanpur. CEED is conducted by IIT Bombay.
Programmes: IISc Bangalore: MDes in Product Design and Engineering; PhD in Design; IITs: Bombay: MDes in Industrial Design, Communication Design, Animation, Interaction Design, Mobility and Vehicle Design; PhD in Design; Delhi: MDes in Industrial Design; Guwahati: MDes in Design; PhD in Design; Hyderabad: MDes in Visual Design; PhD in Design; Kanpur: MDes in Design, PhD in Design; IIITDM Jabalpur: MDes in Product Design, Visual Design. For some Programs of some of the Institutes, GATE qualified candidates are also eligible. Details can be seen in the Brochure.
CEED 2020 will be conducted on January 18, 2020 (Saturday), from 10 am to 1 pm. The examination will consist of two parts, Part A and Part B. Candidates have to attempt both the parts. Part A will be conducted from 10 am to 11 am followed by Part B form 11 am to 1 pm. Part A contains objective type questions (multiple choice questions, multiple select questions and numerical answer questions). This part will be computer based examination and the answers have to be given on the computer. These will be design aptitude type questions that evaluate visual and spatial ability, environmental and social awareness, analytical and logical reasoning, language, observation and design sensitivity of the candidates. Part B consists of questions that are aimed at testing design, drawing and writing skills. The questions in Part B will be displayed on the computer screen and the answers are to be written in the answer book provided by the invigilator and not on the computer. However, applicants are to tick appropriate box on the computer screen to indicate that the question has been answered. Part B answer books will be collected at the end of the examination.
Marks obtained in Part A will be used to shortlist candidates. The cut-off for Part A marks for Short-listing candidates will be as described in the CEED 2020 Brochure at http://www.ceed.iitb.ac.in/2020/. The cut-offs for short-listing candidates of OBC-NCL category will be 90% of the Open category. And that for SC, ST, and PWD categories will be 50% of the Open category, subject to the condition that the candidate must score the minimum prescribed marks or more in Part A to be shortlisted.
Category Minimum percentage of marks required in Part A for short-listing will be as follows: Open -10%, OBC-NCL- 9%, SC / ST / PwD- 5%. Part B answer books will be evaluated manually for the candidates who are shortlisted from Part A. In Part B, there will be 5 questions of total 100 marks. There will not be any optional question. The final CEED score will be calculated by giving 25% weightage to marks obtained in Part A and 75% weightage to scores obtained in Part B after the above calculation.
After the declaration of the result, CEED 2020 score cards will be available for downloading to all the qualified candidates. Hard copy of the CEED score cards will NOT be sent to the qualified candidates. Answer booklet (Part B) will NOT be provided to the candidates. The marks obtained in Part B will not be disclosed for the non-qualifying candidates.

Examination Centres: CEED 2020 will be conducted at Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Delhi, Ernakulam, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Kozhikode, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji, Patna, Pune, Raipur, Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur and Visakhapatnam. Applicant should compulsorily choose 3 cities in the order of preference at the time of online registration.
Eligibility: For appearing forced 2020, applicant must have completed a Degree / Diploma / Post Graduate degree programme of minimum 3 years duration (after 10+2 level), or must be appearing for the final examination of such a program by July 2020. Those who have passed the GD Arts diploma programme (10+5 level) by July 2020 are also eligible. Eligibility criteria for admission to various institutes may differ from the eligibility criteria for appearing for CEED. Applicant may check the required eligibility criteria for admission to various institutes.
There is no age limit to appear for CEED. Besides, a candidate can appear for CEED any number of times.
Registration: Registration for CEED can be done online only through www.ceed.iitb.ac.in. Registration fee is Rs.1300/- for all women candidates and SC / ST / PwD candidates. It will be Rs.2600/- for all other candidates. The registration fee has to be paid through the payment option provided on the website while submitting the registration form using Credit card, debit card or net-banking. The normal registration fee is applicable for registrations made up to 23.55 hours on November 9, 2019. A late fee of Rs.500/- is applicable to all registrations submitted after the regular closing date till 23.55 hrs on November 16, 2019.
Admit cards will be available for downloading from the CEED website from January 1, 2020 till January 18, 2020.
CEED 2020 result will be declared on March 4, 2020 at www.ceed.iitb.ac.in. The CEED 2020 score card is valid for a period of one year from the date of declaration of the result.
After qualifying, candidates must apply to the respective institutes for admission and fulfil other requirements such as tests and / or interviews of the respective institutes to become eligible for admission. The announcement for admission to the postgraduate programmes in design will be notified separately by these institutes. Candidates are advised to visit the websites of respective institutes for information and application procedure for the programmes.
