BSc Admissions at JIPMER, Puducherry: Apply by May 24

Jawaharlal Institute of Post-Graduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER), an Institution of National Importance under Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, has invited applications for admission to the various Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) courses for 2019-20.

Courses and seats: The Courses offered include (i) B.Sc. Nursing (75 seats) (ii) Bachelor of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (BASLP) (4) (iii) B.Sc. Allied Health Science Courses which include (a) Anaesthesia Technology (4) (b) Cardiac Laboratory Technology (4) (c) Dialysis Technology (4) (d) Blood Banking Technology (4) (e) Radio-diagnosis Technology (4) (f) Neuro Technology (4) (g) Nuclear Medicine Technology (4) (h) Optometry (4) (i) Perfusion Technology (4) (j) Radiotherapy Technology (4) (k) Medical Laboratory Technology (M.L.T) (30) and (l) Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics (4). There are a total of 153 seats for all the courses together.

Certain seats are reserved under Unreserved (UR), (OBC) (NCL), SC and ST on an All India basis. Seats are also reserved for various categories for those belong to the UT of Puducherry (P-UR, P-OBC NCL, P-SC, P-ST). 5 % of the seats reserved horizontally to PwD candidates. Out of 75 seats in B.Sc. Nursing, 8 seats are horizontally reserved for male students and remaining 67 seats reserved for female students.

Course duration: All courses are full time courses. B.Sc. Nursing course is of 4 years duration. The students are eligible for 1 (One) year optional stipendiary internship at JIPMER on successful completion of the course. BASLP & B.Sc. Optometry courses are of 4 years duration which will include 1 year internship.  B.Sc. Allied Health Science Courses are of 3 years duration. At the end of the course, the candidates are eligible for 1 year optional stipendiary internship at JIPMER. The Optional stipendiary Internship is subject to approval by competent authority.

Eligibility: Applicant should be an Indian National and should complete the age of 17 years on or before 31st December 2019. Applicant should have been born on or before 1.1.2003. There is no upper age limit.

Applicant should have passed the Higher / Senior Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination which is equivalent to 10+2 Higher / Senior Secondary Examination after a period of 12 years study, with Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Botany & Zoology (which shall include practical tests in these subjects) and English or should have passed the Higher Secondary Examination (+2) Vocational Stream with Medical Laboratory Assistant or any equivalent examination.

Applicant must have passed in Physics, Chemistry, Biology /Botany & Zoology and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks (40% for SC/ST/OBC and 45% for General PwD) taken together in Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Botany & Zoology at the qualifying examination. Those who are studying/have studied Medical Laboratory Assistant in the Vocational Stream will not be considered for B.Sc. (Nursing) course.

The examinations recognized by JIPMER are listed in Annexure-I of the Information Brochure that can be downloaded from www.jipmer.edu.in. Those who have passed the qualifying examination other than those mentioned in the list appended in Annexure- I, will have to submit an Eligibility Certificate before admission is finalized. Obtaining such an Eligibility Certificate from Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi is essential for admission to JIPMER B.Sc. Courses.

Those who have appeared in the qualifying Examination in March / April 2019 and whose results have not yet been declared can also apply for admission.

Selection: Selection will be based on an Entrance Examination to be conducted as an online Computer Based Test (CBT) to be held on 22nd June, 2019 (Saturday) at Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi, Puducherry, Trivandrum and Vijayawada.

The CBT will be held in a Single shift, from 10 am to 11.30 am and will be common for all the B.Sc. courses. The venue, time and shift of the examination will be communicated to the candidates in the Admit Card. Medium of the question paper will be English.

The Entrance Examination will have 100 single best response type MCQs from Physics (20 questions), Chemistry (20), Biology (40), English Language (10) and Logical & Quantitative Reasoning (10), each question having four alternatives. The questions will be based on the syllabus as prescribed by State Board Hr. Sec. and CBSE for XI & XII Standards. Candidates may go through the Mock Test for computer based Test, the link for which is available www.jipmer.edu.in.

Application: Applications can be registered online at the link provided at www.jipmer.edu.in latest by 5 pm on 24.05.2019 (Friday).

An applicant can opt for 3 Exam Cities in the order of priority during on-line registration and the allotment will be on a First-Cum-First served basis.

Application fees for UR & P-UR; OBC and P-OBC categories is Rs.1500/-. The application Fee is Rs.1200/- for SC/ST &P-SC/P-ST. PwD applicants are exempted from payment of application fee. The process of submission of application On-line is completed only after clicking the ‘Submit button’ after Uploading personal details, Scanned Photograph and Scanned Signature & Scanned Community /PwD Certificate (if applicable). Applicants may download a copy of their filled in application which contains Application No., Personal details, scanned photograph, scanned signature and the payment details for future reference.

In case the candidate has found an error of entry committed by him/her in the application, a new application has to be submitted along with the prescribed fee. The earlier application will automatically stand cancelled.

Hall Tickets for the Entrance Examination shall be available for download to candidates whose applications are complete in all respects, from 10 am on 10.06.2019 (Monday), till 8 am on 22.06.2019 (Saturday).

Candidates will have to appear for the Entrance Examination along with the hall ticket, ID proof in original & a photocopy of the same. Id can be one among AAdhar / E-AAdhar; Passport, Voter ID, 12th class Board Admit card with photograph, Bank passbook with photograph or any other valid Government identity proof with photograph. The candidate should get the signature and seal of the centre Representative /Invigilator on their Hall ticket. Candidate should hand over photocopy of the ID proof to Invigilator before leaving the hall. Candidates should preserve their hall ticket (with the signature and seal of the centre representative / Invigilator) after the completion of the exam and need to produce the same hall ticket during counselling.

In the computer based examination, Questions that are ‘Answered’ will be considered as ‘Answered’; ‘Marked for Review and answered’ will be considered as ‘Answered’; ‘Marked for Review and Unanswered’ will be considered as ‘Not Answered’. Each answer with correct response shall be awarded 1 mark. No mark will be awarded for incorrect response (There is no negative marking).

Merit Ranking would be based on category wise percentile score which would be 50 for UR & P-UR; 45 for UR-PwD; 40 for SC / ST / OBC /-PwD & P- SC / ST / OBC.

Results are expected to be published latest by 5th July, 2019. The tentative schedule of counselling is also given in the Information Brochure.
