Bachelor of Fishery Science (Nautical Science) at CIFNET: Apply by May 15
Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical and Engineering Training (CIFNET), Fine Arts Avenue, Cochin -16; Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying (Department of Fisheries), Government of India has invited applications for admission to the Bachelor of Fishery Science (Nautical Science) Progrmme offered at the Institute for 2020-21 academic year.
The Four year degree programme (8 semester) with integrated practical & onboard training on ocean going fishing vessels is affiliated to CUSAT, Kochi, recognized by UGC and approved by DG Shipping, Mumbai. The course will be conducted at CIFNET, Kochi only. They are eligible for Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC).
This programme aims at producing a new generation of experts in the fishing field who will be able to take up any challenges in the operation of fishing vessels and related research & academic spheres with confidence. Those who successfully pass this degree and the basic modular courses with required sea experience are exempted from all written papers and can directly (without Post-Sea courses) appear for the Mate Fishing Vessel oral examination leading to the issuance of Certificate of competency as Mate of a fishing vessel. The curriculum is framed with special emphasis on practical aspects in Nautical science, Fishery Biology, Fishing Craft Technology, Fishing Gear etc. Practical exposure will be given to the students in the well established laboratories.
Eligibility: Applicant should have passed 10 + 2 with minimum 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB)/Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM). Applicant should have scored 50% marks in English either in 10th or 12th. For SC/ST students, only a pass in Plus 2 course with these subjects is enough. Those who are appearing for 10+2 exams during March, 2020 are also eligible to apply.
Age: Applicant should be of 17 to 20 years of age as on 1st October, 2020. Upper age limit for lateral Entry is 22 years.
There are 40 seats for the Programme (Gen/Gen-EWS/OBC/SC/ST/-31, NRI-1, Foreign National-1, Lateral Entry System-7). Details are available in the Prospectus
Selection: Selection will be through Common Entrance Test (CET) to be held at Kochi, Chennai & Visakhapatnam on 13.06.2020 (Saturday) & Academic Merit
Application fee: Rs. 500/- for Genera/OBC and Rs. 250/- for SC/ST.

Filled in application along with necessary documents like mark sheet (SSLC/HSC), community certificate if SC/ST/OBC (NCL)/EWS etc., must reach ‘The Director, CIFNET, Fine Arts Avenue, Kochi-682016’, latest by 15th May, 2020.
