Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti has invited applications for the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test-2020, for admission to Class-VI.
JNVs aim to provide good quality modern education including a strong component of culture, inculcation of values, awareness of the environment, adventure activities and physical education to the talented children predominantly from rural areas, to ensure that students attain a reasonable level of competency in three languages, to promote national integration through migration of students from Hindi to non-Hindi speaking State and vice-versa; to serve in each district as focal point for improvement in quality of school education in general through sharing of experiences and facilities.
Students of the JNVs appear for board examinations of the Central Board of Secondary Education.
The medium of instruction in JNVs is the mother tongue or regional language up to Class VIII and thereafter English for Mathematics and Science and Hindi for Social Science.
Reservation: Rural/Urban- A minimum of 75% of the seats in a district will be filled by candidates selected from rural areas and remaining seats will be filled from the urban areas of the district.
A candidate seeking admission under the rural quota must have studied in Classes -III, IV and V completing full academic session from the Government/ Government Aided/Government recognized school(s) located in rural areas. Candidate should also be studying the full academic session in Class-V from the same district where admission is sought. Candidates studying under the schemes of National Institute of Open Schooling should produce their rural status certificate issued by District Magistrate / Tehsildar / Block Development Officer.
A candidate who has studied in a school located in an urban area even for a single day of session in Class- III, IV and V will be considered as an urban candidate. Urban areas are those which are so defined in 2011 census or through a subsequent Government notification. All other areas will be considered as rural.
Reservation of seats in favour of children belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes is provided in proportion to their population in the district concerned provided that in no district, such reservation will be less than the national average (15% for SC and 7.5% for ST) but subject to maximum of 50% for both the categories (SC & ST) taken together. These reservations are interchangeable and over and above the candidates selected under open merit.
Minimum one third of the total seats are filled by girls.
Reservation is also available for Divyang children (i.e. Orthopedically Handicapped, Hearing Impaired and Visually Handicapped) as per GOI norms. Details are given in the Prospectus.
No separate reservation is there for transgender category candidates. They will be included in Boys category for reservation purpose, under various sub-categories viz Rural, Urban, SC, ST and Divyang.
Fee for study: Education in the schools is free including board & lodging, uniform and textbooks. However, an amount of Rs. 600/- per month is collected from the students of Classes IX to XII towards Vidyalaya Vikas Nidhi. Students belonging to SC/ST categories, all Girl students and the students whose family income is below poverty line (BPL) are exempted from this.
In respect of wards of Government employees other than exempted category (Students of classes VI to VIII, all SC/ST & girl students and wards of BPL families) Vikas Nidhi will be charged @Rs.1500/- per month or actual children education allowance received by the parent per month whichever is less subject to a minimum of Rs.600/- per student per month.

A maximum of eighty students are admitted in Class VI in each Vidyalaya through a Selection Test subject to availability of suitable candidates.
Eligibility: Applicant should be from the district concerned where the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya has been opened to be eligible to apply for admission. However, if the district where JNV is opened is bifurcated at a later date, the old boundaries of the district are considered for the purpose of eligibility for admission into JNVST, in case a new Vidyalaya is not started in the newly bifurcated district as yet.
Applicant must not have been born before 1.5.2007 and after 30.4.2011 (both dates are inclusive). This will apply to candidates of all categories, including those who belong to the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST).
Applicant must be studying in Class V for the whole of the academic session 2019-20 in a Government/Government aided or other recognized schools or ‘B’ certificate competency course of National Institute of Open Schooling in the same district where he/she is seeking admission. A school will be deemed recognized if it is declared so by the Government or by any other agency authorized on behalf of Government. Schools where students have obtained ‘B’ certificate under National Institute of Open Schooling should have accreditation of NIOS. A candidate must successfully complete Class V in the session 2019-20.
A Candidate claiming admission under rural quota must have studied and passed classes III, IV and V from a Govt. / Govt. aided / recognized school spending one full academic session each year in a school located in rural area.
Candidates passing ‘B’ certificate competency course of National Institute of Open Schooling on or before 30th September 2019 are also eligible to write admission test provided they are in the prescribed age group. The rural status of a child from National Institute of Open Schooling will be decided on the basis of a certificate to be issued by Tehsildar/District Magistrate of the District indicating that the child has been residing in rural areas for the last three years. Students studying under the above scheme and residing in urban and notified areas are not eligible for obtaining seat in rural quota.
A Candidate who has not been promoted and admitted to Class V before 15th September, 2019 is not eligible to apply. No candidate is eligible to appear in the selection test for the second time, under any circumstances.
JNV Selection Test: JNV Selection Test for admission to Class-VI in JNVs for the academic session 2020-21 will be held in two phases.
It will be held at 11.30 am on 11th January, 2020 (Saturday), in the State of Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh (except Dibang Valley & Tawang Districts), Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh (except Chamba, Kinnaur, Mandi, Sirmour, Kullu, Lahaul & Spiti and Shimla Districts), Jharkhand, Kerala, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Orissa, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tripura, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, & West Bengal (except Darjeeling), Union Territories of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Dadar & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu, Delhi, Lakshadweep and Pudducherry.
It will be held at 11.30 am on 11th April, 2020 (Saturday), in the States of Jammu and Kashmir, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Uttrakhand and in the Districts of Dibang Valley and Tawang of Arunachal Pradesh, in the Districts of Chamba, Kinnaur, Mandi, Sirmour, Kullu, Lahaul & Spiti and Shimla of Himachal Pradesh, in the District of Darjeeling of West Bengal.
Selection Test is conducted in various languages state wise as given in the Notification. A candidate will be given a test booklet in the language which he/she has mentioned in the application form. Candidates have to be seated in the allotted rooms latest by 11 a.m. Latecomers will not be permitted to appear for the test. No candidate will be permitted to leave the examination hall/room till the completion of full allotted time. Sample questions are given in the Notification.
The selection test will be of two-hour duration from 11.30 am to 1.30 pm and will have 3 sections given in a single test booklet, with only objective type questions. There will be 80 questions, each carrying 1.25 marks with a maximum of 100 marks. Mental ability Test will have 40 questions (60 minutes); Arithmetic Test, 20 questions (30 minutes) and Language Test, 20 questions (30 minutes). There is no negative marking for wrong answers. An additional time of 30 minutes will be allowed for ‘Divyang students’ (differently-abled students)
Recording Answers: Answers are to be recorded on a separate OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) answer sheet provided. Candidates are required to indicate their answers at an appropriate place on the OMR sheet. A copy of specimen OMR Sheet will be uploaded in the website of NVS. Candidates should use only Blue/Black Ball Point Pen to write on the OMR Sheet. Candidates should bring their own ballpoint pens. Use of pencil is strictly prohibited.
Securing qualifying marks in each of the three sections is essential.
Application: Registration can be done free of cost at www.navodaya.gov.in and www.nvsadmissionclasssix.in. Verification of proofs for residence, age, eligibility etc will be done for selected candidates through the laid down procedure after the declaration of results. The last date to submit online application is 15th September 2019.
The eligible candidates have to fill up the online form and upload the certificate issued by the Head Master/Principal where the candidate is studying in class V with the photograph along with signatures of both candidate and his/her parent/guardian. The attachments should be uploaded in jpg format of the size between 10-100 kb only. In case of candidates from NIOS, candidates should obtain `B’ certificate and residence should be in the same district where he / she is seeking admission.
In all JNVs a help desk will be available to assist the candidates/parents to upload application free of cost. Parents may also approach the help desk in JNV along with candidate and required documents such as certificate signed by the Head Master, photograph and a mobile phone with valid mobile number for receiving the registration number and password through SMS for registration process.
Admit Card: Admit card will be made available with effect from 1st December 2019 and 1st March 2020 in respect of phase 1 and phase 2 class VI JNVST -2020 respectively on application portal which may be downloaded by the candidates/parents before the conduct of JNVST.
Result: The result of JNV Selection Test 2020 is expected to be announced by March 2020 and May 2020 for Phase 1 and phase 2 class VI JNVST-2020 respectively. Candidates can get the result from the admission portal. The result will also be displayed in the offices of the concerned (i) Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (ii) District Education Officer (iii) District Magistrate (iv) Deputy Commissioner, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti of the Region (v) website of the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti www.navodaya.gov.in.
The Principal, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya concerned, will also inform the selected candidates through SMS on the registered mobile number followed by a speed post.
