Admissions at JNU: Apply by October 13
New Delhi: Jawaharlal Nehru University has invited applications for admissions to various Programmes offered by it for 2018-19.
Selection to the programmes will be based on entrance examinations to be held from 27th to 30th December, 2017 in 53 cities in India and also in Kathmandu (Nepal), with two sessions on each day, the forenoon session being from 9 am to 12 noon and afternoon session from 2 pm to 5 pm on all days.

Admissions will be made to B.A. (Hons.) in Foreign Languages, M.A., M.Sc., MCA, M.Tech., MPH., M.Phil/Ph.D., Ph.D., PGDE and Part-Time courses, based on the Entrance Examination.

Eligibility: Eligibility for some of the Post Graduate Programmes is as under:
At School of International Studies for admissions to the MA Programmes in Politics (with specialization in International Studies) and MA in International Relations and Area Studies, applicant needs a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 50% marks.
For admission to MA in Economics (with specialization in World Economy), eligibility is Bachelor’s degree (with 50% marks in aggregate) in one of Economics (Honours) with Mathematics as subsidiary subject; or Mathematics (Honours) with Economics as a subsidiary subject; or Statistics (Honours) with Economics and Mathematics as subsidiary subjects or any other Bachelor’s degree (with 60% marks in aggregate) with Economics and Mathematics as subjects.
MA Economics: Bachelor's degree in any discipline under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 50% marks. Knowledge of Mathematics at 10+2 level is expected and will be tested for in the Entrance Examination
MA History: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 50% marks.
MA Political Science: Bachelor’s degree under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 50% marks in Social sciences and 55% marks for those who have Bachelor’s Degree in science and technology disciplines.
MA Geography: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 45% marks.
MA Sociology: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 45% marks.
MA Philosophy: Bachelor's degree under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 50% marks in Social Sciences and Humanities and 55% marks in Science & Technology disciplines.
MA Development and Labour Studies: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 50% marks.
MSc Life Sciences: Bachelor’s (B.Sc. or B.Tech or equivalent) in Biological, Physical or Agricultural Sciences or Biotechnology under the 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 55% marks.
Environmental Sciences: B.Sc. degree or equivalent in any branch of basic or applied science under 10+2+3 pattern of education or B.E./B.Tech/MBBS with at least 55% marks.
Master of Computer Applications: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with adequate competence in Mathematics under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 55% marks.
M.Sc Physics: Bachelor’s degree (with Physics as one of the subjects) under the 10+2+3 pattern of education with 55% marks in the aggregate (or in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics combined), or in Physics Honours. Those with B.Tech (Electronics/ Electrical/ Mechanical/ Computer) degree (or equivalent) can also apply
M.Sc Chemistry: Bachelor’s degree (with Chemistry as one of the subjects) under the 10+2+3 pattern of education with 55% marks in the aggregate (or in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics combined), or in Chemistry Honours. Those with B.Tech degree (or equivalent) in Chemical/Polymer/Petroleum Engineering can also apply.
Those seeking admission to M.Phil, should have a Master's degree or an equivalent professional degree with at least 55% marks in aggregate/ its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale/or an equivalent grade in a point scale/ equivalent degree from an accredited foreign educational A relaxation of 5% of marks/or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for SC/ST/OBC (NCL)/Differently-Abled and other categories of candidates.
For admission to Ph.D, applicant should have a Master’s Degree satisfying the criteria stipulated for admission to the M.Phil programme. Those who have cleared the M.Phil course work with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale or an equivalent grade in a point scale and successfully completing the M.Phil. Degree shall be eligible to proceed to do research work leading to the Ph. D. Degree in the same Institution in an integrated programme. A relaxation of 5% of marks/or equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC(NCL/DA and other categories of candidates. A person whose M.Phil. dissertation has been evaluated and the viva voce is pending may be admitted to the Ph.D. programme of the same Institution. Those possessing a Degree considered equivalent to M.Phil. Degree of an Indian Institution, from a Foreign Educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency shall be eligible for admission to Ph.D. programme
P.G. Degrees of AYUSH System of Medicine may be considered equivalent to Masters programmes (M.Sc./M.A.) and those holding them are also eligible for the JNU Entrance Examination of the M.Phil/Ph.D. programmes.
Those who are due to appear in the qualifying examination may also apply, subject to their securing the minimum prescribed percentage of marks in their qualifying examination and the submission of all documents including final marks-sheets of qualifying examination before the deadline fixed for registration.

Application: Application can be submitted online, on payment of prescribed fee by logging on to www.jnu.ac.in. Online application can be submitted up to 11.59 pm on 13.10.2017.
An applicant can opt for appearing in the Entrance Examination up to a maximum of three fields of study of his/her choice for the same level of programmes to be indicated in the same application form in order of preference for admission. If a person submits more than one application form for the same level of programme, all the online application forms will be rejected.
Entrance Examination Fees: The Entrance Examination fee will be charged based on the number of choices the applicant is applying for.
For 1 Choice the application fee will be Rs. 530/- for General Category, Rs.310/- for SC/ ST/ PWD & OBC Category and Rs. 110/- for BPL category for Ph.D., M.Phil/Ph.D, M.Tech., MPH, M.A., M.Sc., MCA, PGDE.
For B.A. (Hons.), 1st and 2nd Year, and all part- time programmes, it will be Rs.400/-, Rs.265/- and Rs.65/- respectively.
For 2nd Choice, the fee would be Rs.800/-, Rs.415/-, Rs. 215/-; Rs.575/-, Rs.325/-and Rs. 125/-respectively.
For 3rd Choice, they are Rs.1000/-,Rs.500/-, Rs. 300/-; Rs.750/-, Rs.380/- and Rs. 180/-respectively.
For all payments, GST as applicable will also have to be paid.
Application fee payment can be made through online Payment, SBI, other banks or using any bank Debit/Credit card. Bank Charges and GST will have to be paid as applicable.
Applicant should first log-on to www.admissions.jnu.ac.in and click on to New Registration & Candidate Login link. Applicant should fill correct basic and academic details like Name, DOB, Address, Contact No., Email-id and Discipline / programme of study . Applicant should choose a password of 8 characters, remember the password and should not share it with others. Before final submission of online Application form, applicant should read the declaration carefully and give consent on it.
Applicant is required to upload a recently taken scanned photograph and signature in JPG format (preferable width 150px and height 200px) and size less than 20-50 KB. Signature size should be less than 10-20 KB (preferable width 140px and height 60px). The maximum file size for Photo and Signature has to be 50 KB, failing which applicant will not be able to complete the application. Applicant should keep mobile Phone handy while filling the form as the user credentials are sent in the given email id for further login. No written acknowledgement will be issued for the receipt of the application. However, the candidate can verify application status on JNU website after a fortnight of submission. After successful filling of On-line Application Form, a Confirmation Page will be generated for each and every candidate bearing the entire information as filled in by the candidate by them along with a Unique Application Number which the candidate can use in future correspondence. Registration number will be allotted at the time of Admit card generation.
The candidates are required to take a printout of confirmation page and retain the same for their record but need not send the same to JNU.
Those who have obtained their Bachelor’s degree under the pattern of education other than 10+2+3 will be considered for admission to the Master's Programme if they have successfully completed the first year of Master’s degree programme or a bridge course in lieu thereof, wherever prescribed, from a recognized University with prescribed percentage of marks.

For admission to M.Tech, MPH, Post Graduate, PG Diploma, Under Graduate, Part-Time programme, OBC (NCL) candidates are eligible to 10% relaxation in the percentage of marks in the qualifying examination in relation to open category. The SC/ST and Person with Disability (PWD) candidates who have passed the qualifying examination irrespective of their percentage of marks are eligible to appear in the Entrance Examination.
Selection Procedure for Admission: No viva voce examination is held for admission to B.A. (Hons.) 1st year and Master’s degree programmes of study, (except in case of M.A. in Foreign Languages, M.Sc. (CMM & SCIS). The candidates are admitted on merit on the basis of their performance in the written examination and the deprivation points added to their score in accordance with the approved admission Policy and Procedures of the University. The candidates for admission to PGDE, M.Tech, MPH, M.A programmes in foreign languages. M.Sc. in SCMM & SCIS and B.A.(Hons.) 2nd year, Advanced Diploma in Mass Media in Urdu and COP programme of study (Part-time) are Invited for viva voce Examination after written examination and on obtaining minimum qualifying marks. Viva-voce and award of deprivation points, if any, will be as per the approved admission policy and procedure of the University.
Candidates for admission to MPhil/Ph.D and Ph.D are invited for written examination and those qualifying with 50% marks in the written examination shall be called for viva voce Examination.
Candidates for admission to DOP Bhasha Indonesia and DOP in Mongolian are invited for viva voce Examination.
Merit lists are prepared for SC, ST, OBC, PWD categories separately.
Seats: Seat availability is as follows: BA (Undergraduate)- 459 seats; MA/M.Sc/M.Tech/MPH- 1118; M.Phil/P.hD- 720; Part-time Diploma and Certificate Programmes-240 seats.
Up to 22.5 per cent (15% for SC and 7.5% for ST) of seats are reserved for SC/ST candidates respectively. 5% seats are reserved for Person with Disability (PWD). 27% seats are reserved for OBC candidates (non-creamy layer).
