Admissions at Indian Maritime University; Entrance on June 1
Indian Maritime University, a Central University; East Coast Road, Semmencherry, Chennai- 600 119 has invited applications for admission to the Undergraduate & Postgraduate Programmes for 2019-20.
The Programmes offered by IMU at its own Campuses and/or Affiliated Institutes are the following:
Undergraduate programmes: (i) 4-Year B.Tech (Marine Engineering) (ii) 4-year B.Tech (Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering) (iii) 3-Year B.Sc (Nautical Science) (iv) 3-Year BBA (Logistics, Retailing & E-Commerce) (v) 3-Year B.Sc (Ship Building & Repair) (Programme is being conducted only in one Affiliated Institute) and (vi) 1-Year Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS).
Postgraduate programmes of 2 years duration, include (i) M.Tech (Marine Engineering & Management) (ii) M.Tech (Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering) (iii) M.Tech (Dredging & Harbour Engineering) (iv) MBA (Port & Shipping Management) (v) MBA (International Transportation & Logistics Management) (vi) M.Sc (Commercial Shipping & Logistics)
Postgraduate Diploma Programme: 1-Year Post Graduate Diploma in Marine Engineering (PGDME) (Admissions for this Programme are done in the month of January every year).
Research Programmes: Ph.D and M.S (by Research) Those interested may refer a separate Brochure given on IMU’s website for admissions to the Research Programmes for August 2019 Batch.
Eligibility for Under Graduate Programmes:
For (i) 3 Year B.Sc (Nautical Science) at Chennai, Navi Mumbai, Cochin (ii) 4-year B. Tech (Marine Engineering) at Kolkata, Mumbai Port and Chennai (iii) 4 Year B. Tech (Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering) at Visakhapatnam, applicant should have passed 10+2 or equivalent with 60% average in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM).
For admission to the 1-Year DNS programme at Navi Mumbai & Chennai, applicant should have passed 10+2 or equivalent with 60% average in PCM or B.Sc (PCM)/ B.Sc (Electronics with Physics as individual subject in one of the years) with marks not less than 60% in aggregate or B.E/B.Tech from IIT or college recognised by AICTE with marks not less than 50% in aggregate.
For admission to 3 Year B.Sc (Ship Building and Repair) at one Affiliated Institute, eligibility is 10+2 or equivalent with 50% average marks in PCM.
For all Programmes (i) applicant should have scored 50% marks in English in 10th/12th Examination (ii) SC/ST applicants have a 5% relaxation in eligibility marks; however, it will not apply to English marks
There is Lateral Entry into (i) 2nd and 3rd year of B. Tech (Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering) (ii) 2nd Year of B.Sc (Nautical Science) Programme for which, applicant should have passed DNS within five years from the year in which Lateral Entry into 2nd year B.Sc (Nautical Science) is being sought. Only DNS passed candidates admitted in August 2013 batch or later will be eligible for Lateral Entry into 2nd year B.Sc (Nautical Science) in August 2019.

Selection Process: Admission to the Programmes except BBA will be based on an Online Common Entrance Tests (CET) to be conducted on 1st June 2019 (Saturday), between 11 am and 2 pm.
CET for UG Programmes [B.Tech (Marine Engineering), B.Tech (Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering), B.Sc (Nautical Science), B.Sc (Ship Building & Repair) and Diploma in Nautical Science] will have 200 multiple choice questions from English, General Aptitude, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics at Plus 2 level.
Common Online CET for the MBA (Port and Shipping Management), MBA (International Transportation and Logistics) and the M.Sc (Commercial Shipping and Logistics) Programmes will have 120 multiple choice questions from Quantitative ability, Data interpretation, Verbal ability and Logical reasoning.
Common Online CET for M.Tech (Marine Engineering and Management), M.Tech (Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering) and M.Tech (Dredging and Harbour Engineering) Programmes will have 120 multiple choice questions from English, Mathematics and one of Mechanical Engineering/Naval Architecture/Marine Engineering/Civil Engineering.
For all CETs, there will be no negative marking for wrong answers.
CET will be held at Agra, Ahmedabad, Allahabad (Prayagraj), Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cochin, Coimbatore, Dehradun, Faridabad, Guwahati, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kolkata, Kota, Lucknow, Madurai, Meerut, Muzaffarpur, Nagpur, New Delhi, Noida, Patna, Pune, Raipur, Ranchi, Shimla, Siliguri, Srinagar, Trivandrum, Varanasi and Visakhapatnam. The Applicants can give 3 preferences for the cities where they wish to take the CET while registering online.
Application: Applications can be submitted online at https://www.imu.edu.in/. The last date for basic registration and payment of fee is 5.5.2019. The detailed online applications form has to be submitted by 8.5.2019. Hall tickets can be downloaded by 15.5.2019. Results are expected by 6.6.2019
Registration Fee is Rs. 1000/- for General/OBC-NCL candidates and Rs. 700/- for SC/ST Candidates.
For admission to BBA, the last date for registration and uploading of 12th standard mark sheet is 5.6.2019.
Those who register online for admissions to ‘UG Programmes except BBA’, if interested in the BBA (LRE) Programme also, will have to register separately for the BBA Programme and must pay the Registration Fee for both.
