Admissions at Indian Institute of Astrophysics: Apply by October 21
Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Bangalore-560034, has invited applications for admission to two graduate programmes leading to Ph.D. degrees.
The Programmes are (i) Ph.D being conducted jointly with Pondicherry Central University and (ii) Integrated M.Tech - Ph.D conducted jointly with University of Calcutta.
All those admitted to the PhD Programme have to undergo a course work normally for a period of one year before beginning the work towards their Ph.D. thesis. The one-year course work programme starts with an orientation programme for one week on Introduction to Astronomy & Astrophysics at IIA.
For admission to PhD, applicant should hold MSc/Integrated MSc (Applied Physics/Engg Physics; Applied Mathematics; Astronomy ; Electronics; Photonics/Optics or Physics) or ME/M.Tech/Integrated ME/M.Tech (Applied Physics/Engg Physics; Computer Science; Electrical; Electronics; Instrumentation; Photonics/Optics/Opto-electronics; RadioPhysics and Electronics) or M.Phil (Applied Physics, Instrumentation, Mathematics, Photonics/Optics, Physics).
For admission to Integrated M-Tech.- PhD, eligibility is MSc/Integrated MSc (Applied Physics/Engg Physics; Applied Mathematics; Electronics; Physics) or BE/B.Tech (Computer Science; Electrical; Electronics; Instrumentation; Mechanical) or B.Tech
(Post BSc Hons) (Optics and Optoelectronics; Radio Physics and Electronics).
Applicants should be highly motivated students who have completed the qualifying degrees or expect to complete their degrees latest by June 2020, with a consistently good academic record. Applicant must have consistent academic record with 60% or more from Standard X onwards. Applicant should not be over 25 years of age, as on January 1, 2020.

Applications will be screened and short-listed applicants will have to write the IIA Screening Test (IIAST), to be held on December 14, 2019 at Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Cochin, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkatta and Mumbai.
UGC-CSIR-NET (JRF) qualified candidates may be directly called for interview.
Candidates short-listed based on their performance in the IIAST will be called for personal interview at IIA, Bengaluru. Personal interviews for the Ph.D. programme will be held in the last week of December 2019, and that for the M.Tech-Ph.D. programme will be held during May 2020.
