Eligibility:
M.A./M.Sc in Population Studies (50 seats): B.A./B.Sc. Degree (Passed/Appearing) from a recognized university in India or abroad with a minimum of 55% of aggregate marks/equivalent grade in one of Anthropology, Economics, Geography, Health Statistics, Mathematics, Political Science, Psychology, Rural Development, Social Work, Sociology or Statistics. Selection will be based on Online to be held across India from 10 - 11 am on April 15, 2018. The Online Entrance Test will comprise objective type questions of multiple choices. The syllabus of Entrance Test will consist of basic general knowledge, logical reasoning, English grammar, basic Mathematics, population, health, and social science issues. The test venue will be notified in the Admit Card.
M.Sc in Bio-Statistics and Demography (50 seats): B.A./B.Sc. Degree (passed/appearing) in Biostatistics or Health Statistics or Mathematics or Statistics or B.A./B.Sc. degree with two full papers on Mathematics or Statistics from a recognized university in India or abroad with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks/equivalent grade in all subjects. Selection will be based on Online to be held from 2- 3 pm on April 15, 2018. The Online Entrance Test will comprise objective type questions of multiple choices. The syllabus of Entrance Test will consist of basic General Knowledge, Logical Reasoning, English Grammar, Population, Health and Statistics/Mathematics. The test venue will be notified in the Admit Card
For M.A./M.Sc in Population Studies & M.Sc in Bio-Statistics and Demography, upper age limit for applicants is 25 years as on 30 June, 2018. Government of India Fellowship @ Rs. 5,000/- per month are available for both.
Master of Population Studies (MPS): M.A/M.Sc. degree (passed/appearing) in Anthropology, Bio-statistics, Economics, Geography, Health Statistics, Mathematics, Political Science, Population Education, Psychology, Rural Development, Social Work, Sociology or Statistics from a recognized university in India or abroad with a minimum of 55% of aggregate marks/equivalent grade. Those with Master degree, other than subjects specified above and having at least two years of experience in Population and Health related field are also eligible to apply. The upper age limit of applicant is 28 years as on 30 June, 2018. Eligibility for admission can be relaxed by the admission committee in exemplary conditions.
Selection will be based on Online Test & Personal Interview. The Online Entrance Test comprises objective type questions of multiple choices. The syllabus of Entrance Test consists of basic general knowledge, logical reasoning, English grammar, basic mathematics, population, health and social science issues. The test venue will be notified in the Admit Card. Based on the performance in the Online Test, shortlisted candidates are called for personal interview at IIPS. Shortlisted candidates appearing for admission test are entitled to claim sleeper class train fare by the shortest route on production of original tickets and in case of road journey normal fare will be paid only for travel by public transport run by a Government body. There are 50 seats available with the Government of India Fellowship at Rs. 5,000/- per month for MPS course.
M.Phil Population Studies/ Biostatistics & Demography: Master’s degree in Population Studies/Demography/Bio-statistics and Demography/Bio-statistics and Epidemiology (passed/appearing) with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade. The upper age limit of applicant is 30 years as on 30 June. The admission to M.Phil course is through a two-stage process; on line test and personal interview. The online Entrance Test to be held from 4 - 5 pm on April 15, 2018, will consist of objective type questions of multiple choices. The syllabus of Entrance Test consists of questions on English, logical reasoning, Statistics, Mathematics, Bio-statistics, research methodology, Population Studies, Demography, and Epidemiology. The test venue is notified in the Admit Card. Based on the performance in the Online Test, shortlisted candidates are called for personal interview at IIPS. Final selection is based on the weighted average of scores of Online Test and personal interview. The Institute does not bear any travel expense of the candidates called for the test/personal interview.
There are 50 seats available with a Government of India Fellowship of Rs. 6,000 /- per month for M.Phil. However, students with UGC-JRF or other similar fellowship will be considered separately. In addition, a contingency grant of Rs. 5,000/- per annum is paid for approved contingency expenses.
Integrated M.Phil-Ph.D. in Population Studies/ Biostatistics & Demography: Master’s degree in Population Studies/Demography/Bio-statistics and Demography/ Bio-statistics and Epidemiology (passed/appearing) with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade. Those who have qualified UGC/CSIR-JRF or any other national level fellowship are encouraged to apply for this programme. The Integrated M.Phil and Ph.D program consists of two academic degree programs that can be pursued with a single admission procedure taken at the entry level for M.Phil degree. Successful completion of M.Phil degree facilitates shifting to the Ph.D. program. A mid-stream option is available where students can move into Ph.D. program after completion of one-semester/six-months coursework and fulfilment of other criteria set by the Institute. The upper age limit of applicant is 30 years as on 30 June. The Institute reserves the right to decide the number of seats to be filled in. The Institute also reserves the right to change/alter certain rules at any time.
The admission to Integrated M.Phil and Ph.D program is through a three-stage process: online entrance test, written test (research proposal) and personal interview (weighted average score). Online Entrance test will be held across India from 10 - 11 am on April 15, 2018. The syllabus of entrance test for Integrated M.Phil and Ph.D. program consists of objective type questions on English, logical reasoning, Statistics / Mathematics / Biostatistics, Research Methodology, Population Studies / Demography, and Epidemiology. The test venue is notified in the Admit Card. Based on the performance in the online entrance test, shortlisted candidates will be called for writing a research proposal and personal interview at IIPS. There are 50 Seats with Government of India Fellowship @ Rs. 6,000/- per month. If one opts for M.Phil. degree only, s/he will be eligible for a contingency grant of Rs. 5,000/- per annum for approved contingency expenses.
Eligibility for Ph.D and Post-Doctoral Programmes and method of selection are given in the Prospectus. Eligible in-service candidates and foreign candidates (with M.Phil. or Pre-Doctoral coursework in Population Studies/Demography) with financial support from UGC /ICSSR/Foreign funding may be considered for admission to the Ph.D. program without entrance test.
General conditions: Those who have appeared/ will be appearing in the final qualifying examinations are eligible to apply, subject to furnishing of final examination results by 30 September, 2018. Eligible foreign candidates can also apply for admission provided they secure financial support from any outside agency. Reservation and age relaxation for SC/ST/OBC/PWD and female candidates may be considered as per the Government of India norms only.
Application Fee: Processing fees is Rs. 1000/- for General category, Rs. 500/- for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) category and Rs. 250/- for SC/ST/PWD category.

All courses will begin on 11 July, 2018.
M.A. Population Studies (Distance): Admission process is offline and the deadline for submission of application is 31 July 2018. Applicant should hold Bachelor’s degree in any Social Science subject/Health/Mathematics/ Statistics or any similar degree recognized by Indian/Foreign universities with at least 55% of aggregate marks illustrating of eligibility as per the university provision. Those working in various fields will be given preference. Reservation criteria will be followed as per the Government of India norms. There is no age limit for admission and there is no fellowship for the programme. There are 100 seats.
