10% reservation for economically weaker section in MBBS; Controversy over govt order
Thiruvananthapuram: The government order allowing 10 per cent reservation for economically weaker section in general category for medical admission has come under scanner. The order issued on Tuesday also made the reservation norms applicable to self-financing colleges in the state. Eight self-financing colleges in the state have been brought under this. But those self-financing colleges with minority status have been excluded from it.
There also exists confusion over who will bear the fees.
The government is of the stance that the existing share of seats should not be reduced in any of the categories as part of implementing the new reservation system. Hence it demands increasing 25 per cent seats in medical colleges.
The last date for submitting application to Medical Council of India for increasing the number of seats was Tuesday. Concerned principals have submitted the applications.
With 25 per cent increase in seats, government hopes to implement the 10 per cent EWS reservation.
