Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Gandhinagar, has invited applications for admission to the ‘Start Early Ph.D. Fellowship’.
This is a full-time residential fellowship, designed to enable budding engineers to gain early entry into the Ph.D. programmes at IIT Gandhinagar. The objective of this programme is to put promising young undergraduate students from diverse disciplines on the fast-track mode of cutting edge technological research in order to prepare them to participate in the process of nation building.
Highlights of the scheme include (i) Earning a Ph.D. degree directly after Bachelor’s degree (ii) Get generous financial support in terms of stipend and travel grants (iii) be in a fulltime residential researcher (RR) programme.
Eligibility: Applicants should be B.Tech students (Class of 2020) from National Institutes of Technology (NITs) or from other select colleges, who are among the top five rank holders in the department at the end of their third year. B.Tech. students (Class of 2020) from Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) with a CPI/CGPA of not less than 6.0 at the end of their third year are also eligible to apply.
There is no GATE qualification requirement under this scheme. However, applicants may appear for GATE to boost their chances for getting an increased Fellowship.
Fellowship: Fellowship amount will be Rs. 41,000/- per month for those with valid GATE score and Rs.31,000/- per month for those without GATE score. Those admitted are also eligible for Travel support to the extent of Rs.2 Lakhs for attending international conferences. Support of up to $12,500 may be considered for research at leading Universities/Labs abroad for a period of 4 to 6 months.
Application: Applications must be submitted online latest by 27th September 2019, at www.iitgn.ac.in/phd_fellowship.htm. There is no application fee. On successful submission of the application form, a confirmation screen will appear with a link to download the submitted application form. Applicant should save the application form. Applicants are not required to send the hard-copy of the application form. Hardcopy of the application form and all the documentary evidence (copies of testimonials, certificates, publications, work experience and research/professional experience) are to be submitted at the time of interview.
Admission Procedure: Admission is offered on the basis of an interview, which is supplemented by a written test if necessary. The final selection will be mainly based on academic credentials, written test and/or interview. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to IITGandhi Nagar for a written test and/or interview. Interviews through video conferencing may be considered in exceptional cases.
The written test is generally based on the topics related to general aptitude including logical reasoning, analytical and numerical ability, etc., writing skills, and basic courses of various disciplines at undergraduate level. Those who do not qualify in the written test need not appear for interview. The reserved category candidates will be given due relaxation in cut-off marks as per the norms. Those called for the Test / Interview will be reimbursed to and fro single second-sleeper class railway fare by the shortest route from their place of residence to the Institute /venue of the Test / Interview on production of railway ticket in support of the claim.
List of applicants short-listed for written test and/or interview will be announced on 3rd October 2019. Written test and/or interview will be held during 19-20 October 2019. List of provisionally selected candidates will be announced on 15th November (tentative), 2019.
