Thrissur: The administrative activities of Kerala Agricultural University (KAU) are affected by the ongoing protest of the Leftist employees union over the disciplinary action against its leader.

CPM-backed Agricultural University Employees Association general secretary was demoted by three levels. The action was taken in the aftermath of the fight between Leftist organisations with the former vice-chancellor Dr R Chandrababu who retired on October 7. He had demoted four professors to assistant professors. The union leader faced action on the day of the retirement of VC.

The Agricultural Production Commissioner, who is also the principal secretary to the higher education department, is the VC in-charge. The business is run by the registrar.

The association has been besieging the registrar’s office for the past 17 days. Only the RTI replies and court documents get approved on time.

The university has agreed to relook into the actions of the former VC. But the protests are likely to continue till the matter is resolved.
