Kochi: With the next academic year all set to kickstart within a fortnight, the public schools in the state are ready to offer a rousing welcome to new students. The schools are scheduled to reopen on June 1. Around 47 lakh students will reportedly join public schools this year.

“All arrangements to welcome new students have been completed in the schools,” said Education Minister V Sivankutty while attending a press conference the other day.

The state-level school reopening festival, ‘Praveshanolsavam’ will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at Malayinkeezhu UP School, Thiruvananthapuram.

“The excise department has submitted a report on drug gangs targeting school children. Anti-drug campaigns focusing on kids will be carried out to create awareness,” said the minister.

He further added setting up a toll-free number to check complaints over schools charging exorbitant amounts for admissions in cities.
