KAS: 9000 OMR answer sheets for manual valuation
Thiruvananthapuram: Around 9000 OMR answer sheets of Kerala Administrative Service (KAS) will be manually evaluated. The OMR sheets were rejected by the machine due to deformities in the paper. Opposition leaders have raised allegation against the quality of paper used and suspicion of malpractice in evaluation.
KAS preliminary exam was held on February 22 with two papers of 100 marks each. 3.30 lakh candidates applied for the exam. 6.60 lakh papers are to be evaluated. Evaluation had begun in April.
OMR paper sheets which were damaged or of poor quality will be rejected by the machine. These have to be manually evaluated by comparing with answer key.
Meanwhile, PSC chairman MK Sakeer brushed off allegations as baseless. Usually 1 to 2 percent of answer sheets are rejected by the machine. In KAS also, the same thing happened. Among the 36,000 exam sheets of Village Extension Officer, evaluated along with KAS, 1000 were rejected, he said.
The answer sheets will be evaluated under strict security. Only the B portion of the sheet will be handed over to the employees for evaluation. Later A part will be added up and results published.
The answer sheets bought in 2016, is being used now. This is the most inexpensive paper within the prescribed quality standards. PSC doesn’t follow the practice of buying sheets for each exam, he stated, adding the results of prelims will be announced in June itself.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala said that the move is to include favourites in the list. He also demanded a detailed probe into the matter.
Chennithala also alleged attempt to sabotage KAS appointments. Government should explain what is wrong with the 9000 OMR sheets, he added.
