Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has instructed to take necessary measures to make appointments to more public sector companies through Public Service Commission. Following this, an order was issued to draft appointment guidelines for 10 public sector enterprises under the agriculture department.

Earlier the Assembly committees had pointed out that many opportunities were lost as the appointments to public companies, boards and corporations were not done through PSC. The youth welfare committee with TV Rajesh as chairman had recommended to draft the appointment guideline to various departments without delay.  The committee also suggested to amend the guidelines, if required, in departments where it already exists. The backward community welfare committee also had recommended PSC appointments.

Then finance department had instructed to draft the guidelines and conduct staff fixation in companies under various departments. But further procedures were delayed. Following this, the agriculture department has issued the order for immediate action.

There are 130 public sector firms in the state. Most of them are statutory corporations and companies. 46 are under industrial department and the appointments to administrative level in majority of them are not through PSC. In case of Tourfed, Housefed and Texfed also there is no appointment guideline.

All these procedures are expected to be speeded up.

Companies instructed by agriculture department
