‘No salary’, allege self-financing engineering college teachers amid lockdown
Kozhikode: Complaints have been raised of deferment of salary in self-financing engineering colleges under Kerala Technological University (KTU). Many of the colleges have notified the reason for delay in salary payment as financial crisis amid lockdown. There are 150 self-financing engineering colleges under the university.
Almost all colleges are giving online classes. Teachers have been put in crisis with no salaries even after doing their job.
Teachers and employees alleged that the managements are spending the money paid by students as semester fees on other things rather than disbursing salaries. Some of the institutions have not paid salary for past six months. When the issue was brought to the attention of Chief Minister, some institutions paid salaries, but many of them didn’t, teachers alleged.
Some managements have also issued orders cutting down salaries. Managements said that salary is not disbursed because offices can’t be opened.
Self-financing College Teachers and Staff Association state joint secretary K P Abdul Asis said that this claim is wrong and there is no technical difficulties as salaries are deposited in bank accounts and can be done online.
There are a total of 986 self-financing institutions in the state and have 58,000 employees including teaching and non-teaching staff.
