From a dilapidated hut, Divya walked into success, scoring a prestigious rank in the National Eligibility Entrance Test 2019. Divya of Nilambur Chungathara Kurumbalangode Kanayankai tribal colony scored first rank (ST category) in medical entrance NEET in Kerala. She also scored 778th rank (ST category) at all India level in NEET.
Until a few years back, Divya had not even heard of NEET. Daughter of daily wage labourer Leela and late Unnikrishnan, Divya is the third of the five children.
Her story is of pure hard work and determination. Kerala Mahila Samakhya Society district coordinator Rajeena is the pillar of strength behind Divya’s success.
Her life’s turning point came when she was in fifth standard. She cleared the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya entrance exam and joined the school in Oorakam in Malappuram. She completed her studies from 6th standard to 12th standard from there. She had scored 91.6 per cent marks in Plus Two.
She had attempted NEET while in Plus Two and obtained 14,000 rank then. On her second attempt after a year of dedicated learning, she came first (in category) in the state.
Divya came to know about her achievement in Saturday. She has scored 454 marks out of 720. Her father had passed away seven months back. Leela was supporting her daughter in her studies.
Divya dreams of completing her PG studies after MBBS.
