CUSAT team enters Round 2 of University Rover Challenge

Kochi: The team of students from Cochin University of Science and Technology has made it into Round 2 of the University Rover Challenge organized by the Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS) to design and build a rover that would be of use to early explorers on Mars.

URC is an international competition for university students held at Utah in the USA. The CUSAT team under third year electrical engineering student Sankalp Karan secured 32nd rank in the competition.

The rover was designed by them with no corporate sponsors with an effort of 14 months. The 35-member team ‘horizon’ includes students from instrumentation, biotechnology, chemistry, photonics departments and school of engineering and Cochin University College of Engineering in Kuttanad.

This is the second time the CUSAT team is qualifying for the PDR round of URC.
