Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD), an Institute of National Importance under the Department of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India; Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu – 602105 has invited Applications for admission to Ph.D. programmes (Full Time & Part Time) for the academic year 2023-24.
Eligibility: Applicant should have completed Masters / M.Phil. programme or should have equivalent qualification from a recognised foreign educational institution, with at least 55% marks in aggregate (50% for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/DA/EWS) or its equivalent grade.
Subject specific Masters/M.Phil eligibility criteria are as follows:
Applied Psychology: Psychology/Applied Psychology/Counselling Psychology/Clinical Psychology and other branches of Psychology
Computer Science with specialization in AI & ML; Cyber Security; Data Science: Computer Science / Information Technology / Computer Applications or allied subjects
Development Studies: Social Sciences
English: English or Master’s degree in relevant discipline of English
Public Administration: Public Administration, Political Science, Development Administration, Local Governance, Public Policy, Public Policy and Governance, International Relations, Peace Studies, Defence and Strategic Studies, Law / Legal Studies, Women Studies/Gender Studies, Human Rights, Disaster Management, Environmental Management, Climate Change, Development Studies
Social Work: Social Work
Sociology: Sociology and allied subjects like Anthropology/Development Studies/Public Administration/Social Work /History/Political Science/Philosophy and Interdisciplinary Studies.
The campuses where the programs are offered are as follows: Chandigarh campus: (i) Development Studies (Full time) (ii) Public Administration (Full time / Part time); Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu: Sociology (Full time), All other subjects (Full time / Part time).
Selection: Selection will generally be based on the Ph.D. entrance test to be conducted by RGNIYD on 24.09.2023. Students who secure 50% marks in the entrance test (45% for SC/ST/OBC/DA/EWS) are eligible to be called for the interview. The final selection will be based on a weightage of 70% for the entrance test score and 30% for the performance in the interview/viva- voce. Candidates may also be requested to submit the research proposal at the time of the interview.
Applicants who have cleared UGC Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and whose fellowship is valid in the academic year 2023-24 are exempted from Ph.D. entrance test. However, UGC JRF candidates are required to register themselves with application fee. UGC JRF candidates will be called directly for the interview and the candidates have to appear for the interview in person.
Those willing to do Part-time Ph.D. shall obtain a ‘No Objection Certificate’ from the head of the institution / organization where the candidate is currently employed. Details are given in the Notification at https://www.rgniyd.gov.in/

Application fee for General / EWS and OBC will be Rs.500/- and for SC/ST/PWD Rs.200/-. It is to be paid online.
