Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB), an Autonomous National Institute of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, Thycaud PO, Poojappura, Thiruvananthapuram- 695 014, has invited applications for admission to the PhD program 2023 in various domains of Disease Biology, Neuroscience, Plant Science and Bioinformatics, commencing on August 1, 2023.

The program is affiliated to the Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB) an ‘Institution of National Importance’ providing education, training and research established by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India under the auspices of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Registration of the selected candidates will be as per the guidelines issued by RCB for the award of PhD degree.

Eligibility: Applicants should be Post-graduates in Life/ Environmental/ Veterinary/ Pharmaceutical/ Medical Sciences or allied subjects (Biochemistry/ Biotechnology/ Bioinformatics/ Biophysics/ Chemistry/Microbiology, etc.) having a minimum of 60% marks and as per UGC guideline (55% /equivalent grade point, may be allowed for those candidates belonging to the SC, ST and Differently abled categories).

Applicant should have a valid JRF (UGC/CSIR/ICMR/DBT/ DST-INSPIRE or any other nationally-competitive fellowship) offered by the Government and should be valid for a period of 5 years.

Upper age limit is 26 years as in May 2023. Age limit will be relaxed for SC, ST and Physically challenged candidates as per Government of India regulations.

Application: Applications must be submitted online through the PhD Notification link (Current Notifications) at https://rgcb.res.in/ on or before June 15, 2023.

Application Fee of Rs. 500/- must be paid online using ‘SB Collect’ of State Bank of India through the URL given in the Payment Stage. SC/ ST/ EWS/ Physically challenged candidates are exempted from paying the processing fees.

Selection: Candidates with valid JRF will be shortlisted based on overall academic performance. List of shortlisted applicants will be published in the last week of June. Final selection is based upon the performance of the student in the offline/online interviewto be conducted in the First/ Second week of July 2023. The guidelines for interview will be provided all the shortlisted candidates. List of the selected candidates will be displayed on RGCB website. They have to join in the last week of July, 2023.

Fees: Students admitted will have to pay a laboratory fee of Rs. 5000/- per semester for the first ten semesters and Rs. 10,000/- for every semester after that. However, SC and ST candidates are exempted from paying the Laboratory fees. EWS candidates are also exempted from paying Laboratory fees, but only after producing a valid income and asset certificate from the competent authority in each financial year. All the students have to pay the RCB administrative fees.
