Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB) Biotech Park, Electronics City Phase I, Bengaluru- 560 100, has invited applications for admission to two Master of Science Programmes- (i) MSc Biotechnology and Bioinformatics (ii) M.Sc. Big Data Biology
MSc Biotechnology and Bioinformatics is a dual specialization degree programme that aims to build competence in both Biotechnology and Computational Biology/ Bioinformatics. The programme incorporates Genetic engineering, Cell and Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, fermentation, and downstream processing omics, next gen sequencing, big data analysis etc.
M.Sc. programme in Big Data Biology will be highly interdisciplinary, covering topics at the interface of Biology, Mathematics, Data Analytics and Information Technology. The students trained through this programme will help address the need for highly skilled manpower in this area and produce a new generation of computational biologists capable of exploring genomic information in medicine, analysing medical images using Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence and employing these techniques in diverse areas such as healthcare diagnostics and therapy.
Eligibility for both Programmes: Applicant should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in any branch of Science/Technology/Medicine (with degrees such as B.Sc., B.E, B.Tech., B.Pharm., BAgri, MBBS, BDS and BVSc) with at least 50% marks in aggregate. Eligible subject areas include Life sciences (Zoology, Botany, Genetics, Human Biology, General Life Sciences, Ecology, Environmental Biology), Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, any branch of engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Agriculture, Medicine, Dentistry, Horticulture, Forestry and Veterinary Sciences.
Those in the final semester of their Bachelor’s degree Program can also apply.
Application: Common Application is to be submitted online through the Program admission link at https://www.ibab.ac.in/ latest by 13.5.2023. Application fee is Rs. 600/-, whether applying for one or both MSc programmes.
Applicants will be short listed based on a proctored online examination. The entrance test will be of 2 hours’ duration with 100 multiple choice questions from Mathematics and logical reasoning (20 questions), Physics (20), Chemistry (20) and Biology (40). Each correct answer carries 2 marks, and a wrong answer carries -0.5 mark. The syllabus will be generally of Class 12 level.
Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed either in person at IBAB or in online mode. Candidates will be intimated in due course about the date and mode of interview.
The admission ranking will be based on 70% on the interview score and 30% on the overall academic score in the 10th standard, 12th standard and the Bachelor’s Degree.
