Research Admissions at Indian Maritime University Chennai: Apply by January 17


Indian Maritime University (IMU), a Central University, Government of India; Chennai has invited applications for admission to the Research Programmes at the institute.

Admissions are offered to (i) Ph.D. (ii) Integrated Ph.D. and (iii) M.S. (By Research), in the areas of Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, Naval Architecture and Ship Building, Dredging and Harbour Engineering, Off-shore Support Services, Inland Waterways Coastal Shipping and River-Sea Shipping, Port and Shipping Management, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Maritime Security and Piracy, Maritime Law, Maritime Insurance, Inter-disciplinary areas. The areas are only illustrative not exhaustive. Any topic related to Maritime domain can be considered.

Eligibility: (i) Ph.D: Applicant should have Post Graduate Degree in the respective areas of research in the Schools mentioned or in a relevant discipline with at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ ST/ OBC(NCL)/ PwD candidates)/equivalent Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) or M.S (by Research) or M.Phil degree in the respective areas of research in the Schools mentioned or a relevant discipline. Mariners with Master or MEO Class I Certificate of Competency or PGDMOM qualification with 2 years of continuous teaching experience at degree level as faculty in IMU/IMU Affiliated Institutes/DG(S) approved institutes, are also eligible.

(ii) Integrated Ph.D.:Under Graduate (U.G) degree in a relevant discipline with at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ ST/ OBC(NCL)/ PwD candidates)/equivalent Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA), except in the case of Mariners for whom a Master or MEO Class I Certificate of Competency would suffice. For SC/ST/OBC(NCL)/PwD candidates, the minimum marks shall be 50% (or equivalent CGPA)

(iii) M.S. (By Research): Under Graduate (U.G) degree in a relevant discipline with at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ ST/ OBC(NCL)/ PwD candidates)/equivalent Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) except in the case of Mariners for whom a Master or MEO Class I Certificate of Competency would suffice.

Admission Process: The Written Test (Stage I) and Descriptive Writing Test (Stage II) as part of the selection process, will be conducted at IMU Campuses at Navi Mumbai, Chennai, Kochi, Kolkata and Vishakhapatnam from 10 am to 1 pm on 28.01.2022. The Written Objective Test will have 120 questions of 1 mark each. Writing Test will be an essay test of 1 hour duration.

Personal Interview for Qualified Candidates will be notified of the date, time and venue, to their registered email address.

Registration fee for SC/ST applicants will be Rs 700/-. It will be Rs 1000/- for all other categories.
