A Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice was visibly shaken when the CBI had filed an irresponsible report relating to the suspicious death of a District Judge in Dhanbad.
“It is alleged to be a murder. What is the motive behind the murder?” the Chief Justice asked the CBI counsel.
The CBI had filed a report on the investigation but it did not disclose anything. Absolutely no clue or even a remote finding. So what was the motive behind the murder? the court repeatedly queried.
As the CBI could not convince the court, it was compelled to draw a conclusion that the investigation was not meaningful.
The court observed that when a suspected murder happens then the motive has to be unearthed.
Since the CBI has not found anything, the Court was compelled to pass severe strictures orally. The Chief Justice was so disturbed.
The case relates to the death of Utham Anand, district judge of Dhanbad, on July 28. He had gone for morning walk when an auto rickshaw hit him and he succumbed to death. The auto rickshaw fled the spot.
The SC ordered CBI enquiry suo moto. Though two persons were taken into custody and a week passed since investigation began, the CBI could not find out anything. That is why the Court severely came down on the report and said it was rather empty.
The Court directed the CBI to submit a weekly report to the Jharkhand high court and the chief justice there has to monitor the investigation.
