Sexual abuse of girl students by teachers is a heinous crime. It has to be dealt with an iron hand, observed the Madras High Court.

A girl student of a Salem high school was sexually abused by a teacher. He was sentenced to 5 years rigorous imprisonment. The accused teacher Jayaseelan, a pastor, challenged it in the High Court but the appeal was dismissed.

The High Court directed the authorities that such abuses shall not be repeated. The students generally do not complain about such incidents openly. So the Court directed all DEOs in the state to take steps to install a complaint box in all schools.

The key of the complaint box should be kept in the custody of the secretary of the district legal service authority and shall be opened periodically.

The Court set up a committee to look into such complaints. If there is primary facie case, then it should be informed to police.
