Will a bar-attached hotel in the vicinity of a school affect the minds of children studying in a nearby school adversely? No. The Bombay high court observed and dismissed a petition filed by two social workers against a bar hotel in Pune town.

The court said that the bar hotel is situated outside the distance limit fixed by the Government. So it is functioning strictly as per rules specified by the government.

Secondly no adverse incidents have been reported. There is no police report of any law and order problems cropping up as a result of the bar. So the court declined to interfere with the government order granting licence to the bar. Without any adverse incidents and lack of evidence, how can we take action, the court asked?

The present day education system is to enable the student community to face any challenges in their career. The functioning of the bar does not affect them. It will not vitiate their minds. No adverse inference can be drawn, the court said.
