In a case of idol thefts from temples, case diaries of the police team mysteriously disappeared from the police station. When police informed the Madras High Court of the missing case diaries, the Court observed that it cannot be taken for a ride. The Court said that it looks like ants are eating burning embers.

The Court took strong exception to such a submission and decided to look into the matter seriously during the next hearing.

More that 30 temples in Tamil Nadu have been reported to have lost idols recently. Police registered a case of theft but recovery has not been effective. Even the accused were not apprehended.

In such a case, a PIL was filed before the court to direct effective investigation to apprehend the accused. The police told the court that more that 30 case diaries were stolen.

However, 16 are to be recovered still.

The court expressed the opinion that it is difficult to believe the police version and decided to examine the matter seriously during the next hearing.

It only shows the lethargy of the police which is shocking, the Court observed.
