It is a case of huge corruption against Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren in granting coal mining leasing. When a public interest litigant was filed against Soren, the ED also came into the picture. The state government, thereupon, approached the SC to nullify the proceedings in the Jharkhand HC.

The petitioner, Shivkumar, who fights public corruption, sought the intervention of the SC to get adequate protection since he faced life threats because the CM was involved.

The Court asked him why he rushed straight to the Jharkhand HC instead of approaching the police?

He said it is futile as police will sleep silently on the case since grave allegations of corruption was levelled against the CM. Naturally the police machinery will remain silent.

The SC directed the state government to ensure protection to the life and property of the petitioner and his family. The petitioner said that an enquiry indepth is needed.

The SC adjourned it for further hearing.
