We are not dealing with an epidemic only, but an ‘infodemic’ that spreads like a virus greater than corona. The chief of the World Health Organisation (WHO) T. A. Ghebreyesus has said.
The Supreme Court while dealing with corona cases reminded the people of India that the words of WHO chief has to be keenly born in mind because fake news spread and it created consternation in the minds of people.
The SC drew an example highlighting the plight of thousands of migrant workers when they frantically left the capital city for their homes far away from Delhi in other states.
The court told the Government that effective counselling be given to migrant workers as well as providing them shelter and adequate protection.
The WHO has published effective guidelines for the protection and treatment of COVID-19 patients as well as measures for public safety. Those guidelines have to be effectively implemented, the apex court directed the Union and State governments. Public safety has to be given utmost importance, the SC added.
It is the duty of the governments to provide protective equipment for doctors and para medical staff. Private hospital staff also have to be taken care of.
