A district judge in Delhi Deepak Kumar had to knock at the doors of the High Court for justice when the state government turned down his request for reimbursement of the whole amount of medical claims for Covid treatment last year.

A private hospital charged Rs 24 lakhs by violating the circular of the state government. The judge paid the bill. But the government reimbursed only Rs 8 lakhs.

The goernment was of the view that the hospital is bound to do so and refused. He then was determined to move the high court. The high court held that the violation of circular has to be dealt by the government invoking penal provisions. However the government has to reimburse the whole amount. The overcharged amount can be recovered from the hospital.
