Police bulldozes house of suspects involved in torching police station in Assam

The Guwahati High Court directed the Assam state government to compensate the victims of demolition drive. “It is a horrendous act, unheard hitherto,” commented the court.

The residences of four persons, who are accused in a criminal case, were demolished by the police superintendent of Nagaon district of Assam in July. The HC has taken a suo moto case regarding this.

The Court enquired the SP under what provision of law did he lead the atrocity. The court noted the incident as a police excess and directed the government to enquire and take action.

“Maybe in films one can see such atrocities but never to be allowed in a civilised society,” the court said.

The Government shall compensate those who have suffered loss at the hands of police, the court ordered.
