Today is Vaikom Muhammed Basheer’s 25th death anniversary; real life characters to remember him
Vaikom: It is 25 years on Friday since the renowned Malayalam writer Vaikom Muhammed Basheer’s demise. A commemoration ceremony will be held by Basheer Smaraka Samithi at Thalayolaparambu on Friday at 10.30 am.
Some of the real life characters in Basheer’s novel ‘Pathummayude Aadu’ such as Khadeeja, Pathukutty, Arifa and Syed Muhammed will attend the ceremony.
On the 25th anniversary, Khadeeja who is Basheer’s niece and one of the characters in the novel will be visiting Basheer’s residence at Beypore. Khadeeja is the daughter of Basheer’s sister Pathumma who is a major character of the novel.
Basheer’s youngest brother Abu’s sons Anvar and Shaji and their wives also will accompany Khadeeja. They have been invited to Vailalil House at Beypore by Basheer’s son Anees. Syed Muhammed, nephew of Basheer, also wanted to visit Basheer’s residence at Kozhikode, but he is unlikely to go due to health issues.
