Kozhikode: Prominent writer NS Madhavan was presented the Mathrubhumi Literary Award for the year 2018.

Legendary writer MT Vasudevan Nair presented the award at a grand function organized at KP Keasva Menon hall here. The award consists of a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh, certificate and memento designed by M V Devan.

“Despite the intervals and periods of silence, Madhavan’s works entertain and teach us. It is this ability of Madhavan that makes his stories memorable,” said MT Vasudevan Nair.

Mathrubhumi Managing Director MP Veerendra Kumar MP, who presided over the function presented NS Madhavan with a shawl.

NS Madhavan’s short stories are in fact big stories. He just doesn’t say something with words but makes us meaningfully understand the meaning of words, Veerendra Kumar added.

Addressing the gathering after receiving the award, NS Madhavan said that he remained silent as he lost touch with the language as he was staying outside the state. He added that the future would not be comfortable for writers.

Mathrubhumi Managing Editor P V Chandran delivered the welcome speech, writer Subhash Chandran delivered the vote of thanks. E Santhosh Kumar and Sangeetha Sreenivasan also spoke.
