Kalpetta: Noted writer and literary critic Kalpetta Narayanan was presented with the Padmaprabha Award. Ukrainian writer Andrey Kurkov presented the award at a function organised at Krishna Gowder hall in Puliyarmala, here on Tuesday afternoon.

Poet Rafeeq Ahammed gave the Padmaprabha memorial speech. Mathrubhumi director M J Vijaya Padman presented Kalpetta Narayanan with a shawl. Mathrubhumi joint managing director M V Shreyams Kumar presided over the function. Writer Jayamohan, state library council member P K Sudheer, and C Divakaran also spoke.

The Padmaprabha literary Award for contributions to the field of Malayalam literature is instituted by the Padmaprabha Memorial Trust, chaired by MP Veerendrakumar MP, chairman and managing director of Mathrubhumi. A prestigious literary prize in Malayalam, the award was instituted in memory of freedom fighter and socialist Padmaprabha. Awarded since 1996, it carries a purse of Rs 75,000, a gem-studded plaque and certificate.
