Today is Reading Day : School students set up home libraries
Palakkad: In an effort to promote reading habit, the children of Government Moyan Model Girls Higher Secondary School in Palakkad are preparing little libraries at their houses. The children of classes from 5 to 10 are taking part in the 'Little Library at Home' programme as directed by the school authorities.
The students collected books from their friends, relatives and other sources in order to set up the library at their houses. The programme started on June 1 ahead of the Reading Day on June 19.
Over 200 children are part of the project. There are about 3800 students in 82 divisions in the school. All divisions of classes from 5 to 10 have representation in the library programme.
The school authorities directed the students to set up books at home and send a picture of the student standing near it in the first phase of the programme. In the second phase, they are asked to send video and audio and gradually the libraries were ready.
All students who prepared the library will be given prizes on Reading Day. Also the parent who presents the best book review will get gifts.
School head teacher P A Basheer said that the intention of the home library project is to develop reading habit in young generation and also to make them prepared for facing various competitive examinations in future.
