Yashoda, a class 6 student, has been very fond of books and reading since a young age. Her father and artist Dinesh Shenoy took her to a library once. But she was doubtful if every kid can read those books paying the monthly fee. Thus she started thinking about setting up a library for children and has now successfully made the dream into a reality.
Soon after she told her family her dream of starting a free library for children, her father shared the news through Facebook. The Facebook post went viral and hundreds of people from all over the country sent Yashoda books for her library.
Thus she could collect more than 2500 books within one month. Soon, she made ‘Yashoda’s Library’ at her house near Palliyarakkavu temple in Mattancherry of Kochi and opened it for little friends on January 26.
“I want to do everything I can to make everyone start reading. I feel extremely happy to see all these books. I want to read them all. Many a people have helped me to fulfil this dream and I’m thankful to all,” Yashoda said.
Readers can borrow books from the library for free. Home delivery of books is available for the readers who are physically challenged. Yashoda’s mother Asha and brother Achuth Shenoy also supports her mission. She wishes to start a bigger library for all children.
