Neyyattinkara (Thiruvananthapuram): When an autorickshaw beautifully decorated with balloons and posters comes to houses during this election season, everyone mistakes it to be a campaign vehicle. But this auto is not visiting households as part of election campaign but to deliver books for children who are stuck indoors with online classes.
The books auto initiative is introduced by a group of teachers of St Joseph's LP School at Mulluvila in Thirupuram panchayat. They thought of the books delivery in autorickshaw with an aim to develop reading habit among children and their parents during the COVID lockdown.
Reading cards including stories and poems are distributed for children of class 1 and 2 while children's fiction is given for the students of class 3 and 4. They have to read the books within a specified time and prepare a review. The selected reviews will be given presents too, the school authorities said.
Thiruhridaya Church priest Rev Christin and BRC trainer R Vidya Vinod jointly flagged off the book autorickshaw in the presence of PTA and School authorities. Teachers and PTA members are delivering the books in the auto at households of children.
