Vaikom Muhammed Basheer's birth anniversary events to commence on Thursday
Kozhikode: Vaikom Muhammed Basheer birth anniversary programme ‘Art and Craft Literature Tourism Festival’ organised by All India Malayali Association and Beypore Heritage Forum will commence on Thursday. The large-scale events will last for 40 days, the organising committee informed in the press meet.
Film festival, short story competition, short film festival, video presentation based on Basheer’s stories, ‘Hundred Second Ka Sultan’ which depicts Basheer characters in different languages, seminar and other programmes will be conducted as part of the event.
Apart from this, pictures of stories written by Basheer will be drawn by 30 artists on a 150-feet long wall of the port near Beypore Jengar jetty. A sand sculpture will be made by artist Gurukulam Babu at the beach.
The programme will be inaugurated by Kozhikode mayor Dr Beena Philip at Malappuram P Moosa Hall of Calicut Press Club on Thursday at 4 in the evening. Artist Madanan will inaugurate the picture wall. The cultural meet will be inaugurated by Mizoram governor P Sreedharan Pillai at Malabar Palace on February 1 at 11 in the morning.
A literature meet also will be held in which many writers will take part. Organising committee chairman M K Prashanth, general convener Pradeep Hudino, E R Anandamani, K Murali Beypore and Neethu attended the press meet.
