Students read 51,883 books through home library in Kozhikode during lockdown
Thamarassery: During the lockdown over the coronavirus outbreak, students enjoyed reading through 'Sahasradalam’ , a home library here. It is reported that till date the students have read 51,883 books.
A total of 4,565 home libraries were established in 8 panchayats namely Thamarassery, Puthuppadi, Kattippara, Kodencheri, Omassery, Koduvally, Kizhakoth and Madavoor.
From 50 to 800 books were collected to each home library through programmes like 'Pusthakapayattu’ , ‘Pusthakakurikalyanam’ , ‘Pusthakakalari’ , ‘Pusthakavandi’ and ‘Pusthakamela’.
Students in 88 schools under Samagrashiksha Koduvally BRC collected the books to home libraries. The students have completed reading over half lakh books within three months under the programme.
Students who were unable to arrange home libraries due to their limited facilities got help from their friends. Parents, teachers, old students and many others supported the children to establish home libraries and enjoy reading.
The other day, Minister for Education C Raveendranath appreciated this great venture.
Kodenchery panchayat, which has the highest number of home libraries with 1,160, recorded that students have read 13,478 books till date.
