Mothers are busy reading with children now; lockdown scheme becomes successful
Feroke (Kozhikode): While the schools remain shut during the Covid pandemic, mothers of students here are active with reading books. The mothers’ reading scheme initiated in Feroke sub-district is progressing well. The mothers are reading books with their children.
When the learning process was switched to online mode due to the pandemic crisis, the teachers were afraid that the students would lose the reading habit. With this, the teachers suggested various reading programmes in the school online groups.
The children prepared reviews of the books they read and became active in the online groups. Mothers also helped their children in reading and gradually developed an interest in it.
As the mothers came forward to cooperate with this, Feroke BRC initiated ‘Amma Vayana’ project by the middle of the academic year. When the children read books every day, the mothers should read a book per week, prepare reviews and send it to the teachers in charge.
The programme was inaugurated at Chaliyam LP School in last January. Now more people are cooperating with the scheme and donating books to the project after it was widely appreciated.
