Chief minister releases book on Vaikom Viswan's life; calls him brave survivor of ordeals
Kottayam: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that Vaikom Viswan is a person who bravely survived all sorts of ordeals confronted by Communists. He was releasing the book ‘Theekkattu Pole Vaikom Viswan – Samaravum Jeevithavum’ written by journalist R. Samban on the life of CPM central committee member Vaikom Viswan.
The communists may have to face ordeals like attack from police men and goondas and imprisonment. They will go forward bravely without being affected with this. Vaikom Viswan had to suffer severe brutalities for his firm stands.
'A youth march initiated by Vaikom Viswan made the public and the youth aware of the attacks and tortures during the Emergency. I still remember the speeches delivered by Vaikom Viswan during that time,’ the chief minister said.
The ceremony was organised by T. K. Memorial Cultural Centre at CMS College here. The chief minister handed over the book to Prof. M. K. Sanu. M. K. Sanu recollected that the simple speech delivery style of Vaikom Viswan used to thrill the youth those days.
CPM state secretariat member K.J. Thomas, minister M. M. Mani, CPM district secretary V. N. Vasavan, K. Suresh Kurup MLA, Ezhachery Ramachandran and CPM state secretariat member P. Rajeev also attended the ceremony.
