Beloved ‘Kuttetan’, P Purushothaman Nair, passes away
Kalady: P Purushothaman Nair, writer and one of the first Malayalam radio broadcasters passed away on Saturday at the age of 96. He was also known for handling the ‘Balapankthi’ column in Mathrubhumi Weekly.
He started his official life as a program assistant when the first station was started built in Kozhikode in 1950. He had worked in places including Goa, Delhi, Indore, and Port Blair for 33 years. He retired as station director.
He walked into the literary field by writing stories and articles. He handled the ‘Balapankthi’ column in Mathrubhumi Weekly while he was in charge of the ‘Balalokam’ program in Akashavani, Kozhikode. He directed new writers in Balapankthi for four years from 1951. He was known as ‘Kuttetan’ in the Balalokam program in Akashvani.
He has written children’s books named ‘Kuttikle ithile ithile' and 'Valaru veliyavaraku’, ‘Vasu Namboodiri and Kesu Nair', ‘Pakshi kathakal’ and ‘Solomon stories’ are a few of his other works.
His final rites were performed. Wife: Thankamma Kunjamma, Children: Dr Padmaja, Dr Radhika, Dr Krishnan and late Chithra.
