Guruvayur: Poet Sreekumaran Thampi has been selected for this year’s Puthoor Award instituted by Unnikrishnan Puthoor Memorial Trust and Foundation.
The award comprises a purse of Rs 11,111 and a bronze sculpture designed by artist J R Prasad. A jury panel with M Leelavathy as chairperson and Dr C Narayana Pillai, Balachandran Vadakkedath and Alankode Leelakrishnan as members selected the winner.
Trust and Foundation chairman Shaju Puthoor informed that the award will be handed over during the commemoration ceremony to be held on the seventh death anniversary of Unnikrishnan Puthoor which falls on April 2.
A known Malayalam novelist and short story writer, Unnikrishnan Puthoor has published multiple collections of short stories, poems and novels. He was also a recipient of Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award and Odakkuzhal Award. He passed away on April 2, 2014.
