Poet-lyricist S Ramesan Nair passes away
Kochi: Poet and lyricist S Ramesan Nair passed away at the age of 73. He was undergoing treatment for Covid in a private hospital in Kochi. Ramesan Nair had penned about 500 songs for Malayalam movies.
He was born to Shadanan Thampi and Parvathi Amma at Kumarapuram in Kanyakumari on May 3, 1948. He had worked as sub editor in Kerala Bhasha Institute and producer at Akashavani. Ramesan Nair is survived by wife P Rama, writer and retired teacher, and son Manu Rameshan, a music composer.
Ramesan Nair debuted in Malayalam film industry by penning the songs for the movie 'Pathamudayam' in 1985. Later, he wrote lyrics for several movies. He also translated Tamil classics like 'Thirukural' and 'Chilapathikaram' into Malayalam.
Ramesan Nair had bagged several honours including Kerala Sahitya Akademi's Award for overall contribution in 2010, Vennikkulam Memorial Award, Asan Prize and Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award in 2018 for his collection of poetry 'Gurupournami'.
'Neeyen Kinavo', 'Oh Priye', 'Oru Rajamalli Viriyunna Pole', 'Kiliye Kiliye', 'Ambadippayyukal Meyum' and numerous popular songs were penned by Ramesan Nair. He had also written Hindu devotional songs.
