Kerala’s first transwoman poet Vijayarajamallika to tie knot
Thrissur: The first transwoman poet in Kerala, Vijayarajamallika is entering wedlock. She will be marrying Thrissur Mannuthy native Jashim. Vijayarajamallika noted on a Facebook post that their love affair is finally culminating in marriage. The wedding ceremony will be held at Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishad state committee office premises on Saturday between 10 am and 11 am.
Hailing from Muthuvara in Thrissur, Vijayarajamallika is a Paralegal Volunteer at Thrissur city women police station. Jashim is a freelance software engineer. Vijayarajamallika had mentioned her lover as ‘Vasanthasenan’ in her writings several times. Jashim’s family strongly opposed the wedding, but could not change the couple’s decision. Both got acquainted one year ago.
Vijayaraja Mallika is the first transgender poet in Malayalam whose book was included in the syllabus of a university. The Department of Malayalam at Madras University has included her collection of poetry ‘Daivathinte Makal’ in the syllabus of MA Malayalam course. ‘Aan Nadhi’ is her another collection of poetry. Her autobiography titled ‘Mallika Vasantham’ is likely to be released this year.
