Watering the plants efficiently
The farming systems research centrer at Kottarakkara has brought out a new irrigation method suibtale for home farming. The plus point of this method is that it is inexpensive.
The aim of the family drip system is to enable the water that is necessary for the growth of the vegetable to reach its roots. In this method , water is not lost due to vaporisation. Through family drip system, more plants can be watered using less water.
The family drip system consists of one plastic tank, filter, PVC pipe, drip lines and valves. After taking a connection from the main tank of the house to a small tank and attaching a valve to it, the system is ready to use. People who does not insist on giving fertilisers also along with water can adjust the irrigation from the main tank itself.
The family drip kit is arranged in a way in which water will pass through four microtubes to reach four grow bags through fourway assembles in fixed distance in lateral pipes.
An end cap is a necessary at the end of the lateral pipe. An 'Arrow' also is fixed at the end of the micro tube for letting water drops fall down to the root of the plant.
One can indulge in any other work after operning the valve during the watering time. However, the valve has to be closed after the specific period. Those who do not have time to close the valve need not be disappointed. You can use a family drip kit which also has a timer.
The timer will make the valve close automatically after the specific time. The drip kit of 40 grow bags cost Rs 850 while that of 76 grow bags costs Rs 1250. The family drip system will help us to cultivate vegetables without wasting precious water and time. It is very economical also.
