Ways to prevent leaf curl disease in chilli plants
Chilli plant is often infected with leaf curl disease which affects production. Leaf curl is a viral disease. Aphids and white flies can cause this disease as they act as carriers of the virus. By trying some simple tactics, leaf curl disease can be prevented.
- Mix 5 gram soap in 1 litre water and spray this liquid on the bottom of the leaves in high pressure to get rid of white flies.
- Mix 5 millilitres of neem-based pesticides in 1 litre water and add 1 milligram glue to it. Sprinkle this solution on the bottom of the leaves.
- Add 20 grams of Verticillium lecanii in one litre water and apply this solution on the bottom of the leaves.
- Paint an empty tin with yellow paint and smear castor oil outside it. Hang it near chilli plants. Flies will be attracted to the tin and get stuck on it.
It is important to remember that any organic method will be effective against leaf curl disease only if they are applied before the disease affect the plants.
Chemical pesticides are more effective in commercial farming. In kitchen gardens at household organic pest control methods are ideal.
