Karivellur (Kannur): For the past few months, there is no wild boar menace in Aravindan's farm as he experimented with an innovative method - playing radio songs. Hailing from Kookkanam, Aravindan cultivates tapioca, yam, taro, purple yam, banana and other crops in the land close to his house. But wild boars continued to visit his farm at night and devoured on the crops.
Though many people advised Aravindan to use poison and crackers to kill the wild boars, he could not try it due to the love for the nature. Then he remembered his father Ambu who used to stay awake at night and make noise by drum beating to get rid of wild animals. Thus he decided to play songs in the farm at night with a radio.
First he sought permission from the neighbours and set up two sound boxes in the farm. He turns on the radio at night before going to bed. Though the radio stops functioning at times, wild boars stopped visiting the farm for four months. Also he said that he can work by listening to songs during the day hours and it helps him to work with more energy.
