Does your okra plant leaves have powder-like spots? Here is a remedy
Pattambi (Palakkad): The District Krishi Vigyan Kendra authorities have warned farmers to stay alert against powdery mildew plant disease among vegetable plants. The officials warned that powdery mildew is often spotted during the climate when dry day hours and cold night hours are experienced. If the disease is not controlled in the initial stage, it will affect the crops.
Vegetables like okra, cucumber and long beans are easily affected by powdery mildew. Vegetable farming starts on river banks and other available places by the end of November. Farming expands during December.
Powdery mildew disease causes white powder-like spots on the leaves of vegetable plants. Tender leaves and flowers are mostly affected. Gradually, the green colour fades and leaves and flowers fall off. This results in crop loss.
In order to prevent the disease, mix 2 grams of Sulphur in one litre water and sprinkle on the plants. However, cucumber plants dry up when sulphur is sprinkled during day hours. So, apply sulphur solution only in the evening in such plants.
