Agriculture Minister's farm witnesses experiment on fertilizer-free cultivation
Thrissur: Agriculture Minister V. S. Sunil Kumar's farm in Anthikad here is undergoing an experiment for fertilizer-free cultivation by balancing the nutrients in the soil. The experiment is carried out by the agriculture company SPC in the 12-cent land belonging to the minister.
When the pH value of soil is balanced, it helps to avoid fertilizers and also offers high productivity. As the SPC company found out this through experiments, they approached the minister for validation. Thus they started vegetable farming in the minister's land in order to prove the finding.
According to this method, the pH value of soil is maintained at 7 without much variation. This will help balance the acidic and alkaline qualities of the soil. When this method is applied in a large area of land, it costs a huge amount. So, fertilizer-free farming is experimented in grow bags. Drip irrigation is used for watering plants.
In order to clarify doubts regarding the growth of plants, the farmers only need to take a picture of the plant and send it to the company app named 'SPC Prana'. Doubts and queries are clarified instantly. There is also ordinary farming in grow bags in the minister's farm. They intend to compare the growth and production in both methods.
