Young farmer reaps success from watermelon cultivation in Kozhikode
Kozhikode: A young farmer has reaped gold from watermelon cultivation even during the Covid times. Balussery native Lalu Prasad cultivated Karachi and local varieties of watermelons on 2.5 acre field near Arapeedika.
Lalu started farming with the help of Nanmanda Krishi Bhavan. The fruits were harvested during the Ramzan season. So, it had huge demand in the market. Lalu sold watermelons at his house and in front of Nanmanda Krishi Bhavan.
As watermelons can be harvested within 70 days, farming can be continued multiple times at the same place. Lalu also cultivates banana, cucumber, spinach, bitter gourd and long beans. His family and friend Madhu also help with farming.
