School students get stunning yield from Karimeen (pearl spot) farming
Vaikom: Students of Satyagraha Ashramam School managed to get a good harvest from pearl spot fish (Karimeen in Malayalam) farming which was part of the 'Krishipadam' scheme. The students cultivated pearl spot in two ponds in Thalayazham panchayat.
The children tried their hand in fish farming after they successfully cultivated vegetables. They grew fish in the pond giving them accurate amount of food and preventing the water from getting polluted. Following their hard work, the students got a stunning yield.
From the very first round of harvesting, the children could collect pearl spot worth Rs 40,000. The profit from fish farming and vegetable farming are used for the welfare of the school. Principal and teachers attended the harvesting event.
